How to get involved

WFOT is vibrant organisation that interacts with international stakeholders to ensure the important contribution of the occupational therapy is represented at all levels. We use a range of strategies to engage with the profession, organisations, groups and individuals to undertake our work. You may become involved in WFOT strategies and activities in several ways.

An important way to get involved in the work of WFOT is to join the Federation as an Individual Member. Your contribution will support strategic international representation at key stakeholder events to progress, lobby and influence the importance and relevance of the occupational therapy profession at a global level.

Individual Members are eligible to be involved in WFOT activities such as responding to calls to action. More information about Individual Membership is available in our membership section.

WFOT also welcomes interaction and contributions from groups and organisations who may wish to support our work. Go to our webpage about other supporting organisations for more information.

WFOT makes requests to the occupational therapy profession for input in global surveys and research. The research informs the work of WFOT and often serves as a first step in developing a strategy for important issues that impact the occupational therapy profession

Requests for participation are featured on the WFOT website www.wfot.org or via social media.

Examples of published reports of past WFOT surveys are listed below on the following topics:

Subscribe to WFOT Newsletters to remain informed about the information, resources and activities of the Federation. WFOT publishes two e-newsletters each month, including:

  • WFOT News – a summary of latest information regarding the activities of WFOT, our member organisations and partners. Go to the WFOT website to subscribe.
  • WFOT Education News – an update of WFOT information and resources available for occupational therapy education programmes. Go to the WFOT website to subscribe.

As a Federation of national occupational therapy organisations we often consult with our Member Organisations to provide feedback and representation on a wide range of issues, including consultation documents, reviewers/contributors and specialist opinions and perspectives from across the world. Consider contacting your WFOT Delegate and Membership Organisation to let them know you are interested in contributing to any calls for action that are disseminated by WFOT. In addition, ensure you have completed your membership registration on the WFOT website to provide information regarding your practice profile. The membership profile database helps WFOT identify members with the required knowledge and experience to respond to calls to action for WFOT activities or initiatives of our partner organisations.

WFOT offers an international Congress every four years in sites that rotate across the world. Consider sharing your research by submitting an abstract to the Congress. Opportunities are also offered for serving as a reviewer of Congress abstracts. Watch for opportunities that are shared on the WFOT website www.wfot.org, social media or WFOT News.

WFOT is governed by a Council made up of official Delegates from each Member Organisation. Each Delegate is supported by an Alternate Delegate and in some instances, a Second Alternate Delegate. For more information about becoming a WFOT Delegate or Alternate, contact your Member Organisation.
